Understanding the morphology of a state helps us understand the challenges within a state. For, example, an elongated state faces challenges such as, lack of communication and it is harder to govern. On the other hand, a compact shaped state has a equal distribution of resources and communication is easier. There are multiple types of boundaries such as, cultural, geometrical, and physical. Cultural boundaries separate different religions and languages. Northern and Southern Ireland are examples of a cultural boundary; the northern part is predominantly protestant, while southern Ireland is mostly catholic.
